1. Test the Hard Drive Speed on Ubuntu Linux
On the Linux console, use the following commands to install the Required Packages.
# apt-get update
# apt-get install ioping
Use the following command to test the Hard drive write speed.
# ioping -S64M -L -s4k -W -c 10 .
4 KiB >>> . (ext4 /dev/sda3): request=1 time=8.12 ms (warmup)

9 requests completed in 2.24 ms, 36 KiB written, 4.02 k iops, 15.7 MiB/s
generated 10 requests in 9.00 s, 40 KiB, 1 iops, 4.44 KiB/s
min/avg/max/mdev = 202.5 us / 248.8 us / 299.3 us / 35.3 us
In our example, the IOPING Hard drive write speed detected was: 15.7 MiB/s.
Use the following command to test the Hard drive read speed.
# ioping -A -D -s16k -c 10 .
16 KiB <<< . (ext4 /dev/sda3): request=1 time=8.11 ms (warmup)

min/avg/max/mdev = 178.5 us / 215.4 us / 259.2 us / 30.0 us
In our example, the IOPING Hard drive read speed detected was: 72.5 MiB/s
2. Test the RAM Speed on Ubuntu Linux
On the Linux console, use the following commands to install the Required Packages.
# apt-get update
# apt-get install ioping
Use the following command to test the RAM drive write speed.
# mkdir -p /tmp/ram
# mount -t tmpfs -o size=512M tmpfs /tmp/ram/
# cd /tmp/ram/
# ioping -S64M -L -s4k -W -c 10 .

min/avg/max/mdev = 9.20 us / 10.1 us / 11.3 us / 510 ns
In our example, the IOPING RAM write speed detected was: 388.1 MiB/s.
Use the following command to test the memory RAM read speed.

generated 10 requests in 9.00 s, 160 KiB, 1 iops, 17.8 KiB/s
min/avg/max/mdev = 15.3 us / 17.7 us / 21.6 us / 2.13 us
In our example, the IOPING RAM read speed detected was: 884.9 MiB/s
