Tutorial HP Switch – Port mirroring configuration
Open a browser software, enter the IP address of your Switch and access the HP Switch web interface.
On the prompt screen, enter the administrative login information.
Factory default access information:
• Username: admin
• Password: (no password)
After a successful login, the administrative menu will be displayed.
Access the Device menu, and select the Port Mirroring option.
On the Port Mirroring screen, select the Create tab on the top of the screen.
Enter a desired identification number, select the Local type and click on the Create button.
• Mirroring Group ID: 1
• Type: Local
Now, you need to decide which Switch port should be responsible for monitoring the network connection.
Access the Modify tab and perform the following configuration:
• Monitoring Group: 1
• Type of port: Monitor Port
• Switch port: Port1
After finishing the configuration click on the Apply button.
Next, you need to decide which Switch port should be monitored.
Access the Modify tab and perform the following configuration:
• Monitoring Group: 1
• Type of port: Mirror Port
• Stream orientation: Both
• Switch port: Port2
After finishing the configuration click on the Apply button.
You have successfully configured the switch port mirroring.
Don’t forget to save your switch configuration.
Tutorial – Monitoring a Switch Port
After finishing the switch configuration you probably want to monitor the network traffic coming and going form a workstation.
On a computer running Windows, you need to download and install a network monitoring software like WIRESHARK.
Connect the computer running WIRESHARK on the switch port 01.
Start the WIRESHARK application on the computer connected to the switch port 01.
Connect the computer that you want to monitor on the switch port 02.
The WIRESHARK software will automatically detect every network packets sent or received by the computer connected to the switch port 02.
