PFSense – Ntopng Installation
Open a browser software, enter the IP address of your Pfsense firewall and access web interface.
In our example, the following URL was entered in the Browser:
• https://192.168.15.11
The Pfsense web interface should be presented.
On the prompt screen, enter the Pfsense Default Password login information.
• Username: admin
• Password: pfsense
After a successful login, you will be sent to the Pfsense Dashboard.
Access the Pfsense System menu and select the Package manager option.
On the package manager screen, access the Available packages tab.
On the Available packages tab, search for ntop and install the Ntopng package.
In our example, we installed the Ntopng package version 0.8.13_3.
Wait the Ntopng installation to finish.
Access the Pfsense Diagnostics menu and select: Ntopng settings.
On the General tab, enable the Ntopng service and perform the following configuration:
• ntopng Admin Password – Enter a strong password.
• Confirm ntopng Admin Password – Repeat the password
• Interface – Select the LAN interface
On the Local networks area, perform the following configuration:
• Mode – Use the custom list below.
• Custom network list – Enter the network address that you want to monitor.
If you need to add more than 1 network, click on the Add button and enter the network address.
On the Utilities area, click on the Update GeoIP data button.
After finishing the configuration, click on the Save button.
The Ntopng service should start automatically.
To check the status of the service, acess the PFsense Status menu and select the Services option.
If the Ntopng service is not running, you may start the service manually.
Congratulations! You have finished the Ntopng installation on a Pfsense server.
PFSense – Accessing Ntopng Web Interface
After finishing installation, you need to learn how to acess the Ntpong web interface.
On the Pfsense dashboard, acess the Diagnostics menu and select the Ntopng option.
The Ntopng login screen should be presented.
On the prompt screen, enter the Ntopng login information.
• Username: admin
• Password: The password you set before.
After a successful login, you will be sent to the Ntopng Dashboard.
You are now able to use Ntopng on a Pfsense firewall.
